Backflow basics
What you
need to know
Backflow is when water literally flows backwards. This is due to pressure changes & can result in contaminated drinking water.
For example: If the street supply suddenly had a break, the pressure at the street would be 0. At that point, YOUR pressure would be greater than the supply pressure creating a vacuum. This could suck up dangerous water without a backflow preventer.
Backflow testing is a test of different pressures inside your backflow preventer. Different parts must open or close at a certain PSI.
The plumbing code of every city in Los Angeles County California requires backflow testing annually.
This guarantees your device is stopping backflow. In addition, when there's a backflow installation, repair, or relocation, it needs to be tested.
